With January generally being a quiet one (woe is my bank account), I've spent more time at home than usual, and realised how bare some of my flat is. So it's been a month of shifting things around and looking out for thrifty items to make things look a little more lived-in. Despite having things pretty much as I'd want them, there's been one big blank spot on my wall waiting to be filled.
But with a shoestring budget, it's difficult to find something out there that looks right and is big enough. So it's a good thing that my brother fancies himself as poster artist on the side.
I'm not a massive fan of shoving anything on the wall (IKEA canvases of London buses spring to mind) so when he came round with a surprise custom design, I was understandably chuffed. Forrest Gump is my all-time favourite film - I can quote it like the wind blows - and I'm now the owner of my own bespoke piece of fan art.*
From the Vietnam-inspired soundtrack through to the Nike Cortez running shoes, Forrest Gump is probably the only film I'll ever watch more than 10 times - in fact, my blog strapline, "it's funny what a young man recollects", is taken straight from the lips of Tom Hanks. I even went as far as basing one of my uni essays on Forrest's run across America.
And now I have my very own slice of life up on the wall, and it only cost me the price of a frame and printing. And that's all I have to say about that...
*For musical accompaniment, listen to Frank Ocean's
'Forrest Gump'.
