Little Italy In The 'Burbs

There's not much greater in life than a satisfying burger. Sure, there's travelling the world, winning the lottery and the joy of having children but most people just want a good burger. And, when that burger is within walking distance of your bed, it's probably worth asking: 'has my life peaked?'

That's the question I've been asking recently after Manchester bar and grill, Solita, opened up a second restaurant, in Didsbury. Solita's city centre grub has featured on Tales of Timler before and their new place fairs just as well in terms of food coma-inducing stomach busters - it should do, it's the same menu. The Didsbury gaff also has a bit more character about it with plenty of exposed brick, low key light fittings and some great artwork by Stanley Chow adorning the walls.

Solita have admitted themselves that they've had some teething problems with service since opening but their twist on burgers and beers is worth the wait. Having opted for the KFB in the past, my first Didsbury dinner was the Bacon Double Cheese topped with an extra helping of smoked brisket chilli. On top of that, the brioche comes with a spike of candied bacon.

That's right, candied bacon. I'd never had it before. I've had it now. It's amazing.

Solita's food speaks for itself and I'd expect them to do well in the building vacated by Italian restaurant, Cibo. With a killer interior, including neon cows and pop icon artwork, it's a spacious upgrade as little Italy comes to the suburbs. Next up on the 'to try' list: rooster scratchings and bacon fat popcorn.
